You might know him as heartthrob Marcus Forrester on American soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. Beyond his character, actor and philanthropist Texas Battle is down-to-earth and extremely humble. He has made South Africa his second home since 2013. The actor’s love for helping the less fortunate has his heart glued to Cape Town, where he founded the Texas Battle Foundation.
1. How would you describe what you do for a living?
I run a charity foundation called the Texas Battle Foundation. We are based in the Langa township. I am also the founder of a soccer club called Don’t Mess With Texas and a dance group called The Proud Young Dancers. In between teaching at AFDA I often audition for a few upcoming projects.
2. What is your most vivid childhood memory?
I was shot in the finger with a BB gun by my cousin at the age of six or seven. I remember seeing the opening in my finger. We didn’t tell my mom. The wound got infected, closed up and turned blue. When I told my mom, she decided to leave it. The doctors said it would spoil a nerve.
3. If you could invite any three people, dead or alive, for dinner, who would they be and why?
Malcolm X - He was a strong leader for us as African Americans.
Dwayne The Rock Johnson - He is entertaining.
Actress Meryl Streep - She is just amazing.
4. If you ever found yourself auditioning for a music reality TV show, what song would you sing and why?
‘Four Minutes’ by Avant. It’s one of those songs. If you listen to the words it plays out.
5. How would you complete this sentence?
The South African cabinet should include a Minister of ____________________________Acting.
6. What would you say is the biggest misconception about you?
Everyone thinks it is easy to be an international celebrity. It’s not. Fame - a lot comes with it that many people do not understand.
7. What is your (honest) opinion of Cape Town?
I love Cape Town. It’s one of those quiet cities where you can sit back, relax and enjoy the weather. I love the people. There is a lot of room for growth, especially in relation to the youth.
8. What's the greatest fear you've had to overcome to get where you are today?
There has been no fear I have had to overcome but I am afraid of sharks and deep water. I’d rather stay away from the ocean.
9. What's the one thing you'd like to achieve before you die?
I need the kids that come through my foundation to understand why I am tough on them at times.. Just seeing them grow and become young women and men is what I want to achieve.
10. Which well- known South African personality would you, without a doubt, be able to beat in a street fight and why?
I would beat anyone from any South African soap opera.
