2010 Qualification Groups Asia (AFC)
All the necessary information about the Asian Soccer Teams in the Qualification Groups for the FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa
The qualification process for the national teams of the Asian Zone (AFC) for the 2010 Soccer World Cup took 4 preliminary rounds.There were 4.5 slots available for the 43 participating national teams from the Asian Zone to qualify for the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa.
The first two rounds were played in a play-off format, whereas rounds 3 and 4 of the qualification for the 2010 World Cup were played in a group format. At present the qualification process is complete.
In round three the teams that finished first and second in their qualifying groups qualified for the fourth round which consisted of 10 national teams drawn into 2 groups of 5 national teams.
The teams ranked first and second in the 4th round automatically qualified for the FIFA 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa. The team ranked fifth played in a home-and-away play-off against the winner of the Oceania (OFC) Qualification.
Round 3 of the Qualification for 2010 consisted of the following groups:
AFC Qualification Group 1: Australia, Qatar, China PR, Iraq
AFC Qualification Group 2: Bahrain, Japan, Oman, Thailand
AFC Qualification Group 3: Korea Republic, Korea DPR, Jordan, Turkmenistan
AFC Qualification Group 4: Uzbekistan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon
AFC Qualification Group 5: United Arab Emirates, Iran, Syria, Kuwait
