Freshlyground and Shakira release official FIFA World Cup Anthem

The Freshlyground and Shakira collaboration 'Waka Waka'' is the Official 2010 World Cup song

Freshlyground’s new song 'Waka Waka' (This Time For Africa), a collaboration with global superstar Shakira, has been chosen as the Official Anthem of the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

Shakira and Freshlyground will perform the 2010 anthem live on 10 June at the official FIFA World Cup opening concert at the Soweto Stadium in Johannesburg as well as before the official kick-off of the World Cup final in Johannesburg on 11 July 2010.

The official FIFA song captures the spirit and energy of the African World Cup. ‘Waka Waka’ will be among the songs featured on the soundtrack 'Listen Up: The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Album™', which will be released by Sony Music Entertainment in the weeks preceding the event, which begins on 11 June 2010.

Ahead of jetting off to Los Angeles to shoot the official 2010 FIFA World Cup music video, the band said it was “thrilled to have collaborated with Shakira on 'Waka Waka'.



Freshlyground has also released its excellent new studio album, ‘Radio Africa,’ which tackles social issues in South Africa as well as Zimbabwe and includes joyous rhythms of Africa. The album produced by Fabrice ‘Fab’ Dupont (mixer for Santogold, Mark Ronson,Jennifer Lopez) was recorded in the band’s own studio in Cape Town and mixed at Flux Studios in New York City.
