The annual 2011 sunset Christmas Carols Concert at Steenberg has become a ‘must-do’ on the festive season calendar for Constantia Valley residents and visitors from further afield. A festive occasion for friends and family to enjoy together, this year’s concert will take place from 18:00 to 20:00 on Wednesday 21 December, on the rolling lawns in front of the elegant Steenberg Hotel - recently voted the Top Hotel in Africa and the Middle East in this year’s Condé Nast Traveler US Readers’ Choice Awards.

There is little to beat the mood of peace and goodwill at this informal though sophisticated musical event with its’ friendly picnic atmosphere at the valley’s oldest farm. Under the baton of conductor Leon Starker, the 25-piece Cape Town String Ensemble will headline the bill, featuring musicians from some of the city’s most accomplished classical musical groups and orchestras.

With capacity for only 550 people, credit card pre-bookings are essential at a cost of R90 per adult and R45 per child under the age of 12 years. Included in this musical evening is a glass of Klein Steenberg wine or fruit juice for the young ones, and a candle. Concert goers are welcome to bring along their own picnic baskets and blankets, or to pre-book for dinner at the famed Catharina’s restaurant, to round off a perfect summer’s outing.
