Rocking the Daisies Darling

This year festival goers made sure they did plenty of hard rocking while still treading lightly

The fourth Rocking the Daisies festival kept faith with the organisers' promise of stepping it up in 2009.

After troubles with oversubscribing last year, the festival seemed to literally be bursting at the seems. Thousands of unexpected festival goers showed up at the doors and left the Rocking the Daisies team of 2008 a bit overwhelmed.

This year the festival organisers made significant logistical improvements that made the festival a lot more pleasant for almost 12 000 festival goers.

New additions like the Daisy Den, - a cosy hideaway for the ladies of the festival complete with hot showers, clean loos, magazines and manicures - Washbox toilets and showers made sure festival goers were clean and comfortable all weekend.

The impressive line-up of South African talent performed on a massive rig stage and kept the crowds rocking all weekend long. Bands like Checked Zebra, Reburn, The Plastics and Ashtray Electric, aKing and Goldfish had roaring responses.

The festival organisers seemed to leave no stone unturned this year. Attractions like the Lemon Tree Theatre, The Red-Bull electronic tent, a thousand drawings tent, not to mention delectable foods from vendors such as Butlers, Seattle Coffee and Tong Lok, made your tent and campsite the last place on your list to chill out.

The dam provided a place of refuge for those who just wanted to "chill out" in the sun and nurse the hangovers from the previous night's overzealous partying.

In keeping with their mantra "play hard, tread lightly", Rocking the Daisies 2009 pulled out all the green stops to make sure the festival made as little impact on the environment as possible. From printing festival booklets on recycled paper to using the festival t-shirts made from hemp, the organisers kept the green theme going throughout.

In addition, external eco-auditors measured the environmental impact of the entire festival, from office preparation to the festival logistics at the festival itself. Once the assessment is completed Rocking the Daisies plans to implemented a full offsetting strategy to reverse the impact created by the festival.
