Tau Game Lodge welcomes new guests: New home for Hippo trio
Tau Game Lodge, in the Madikwe Game Reserve, has introduced 3 Hippo's to their water hole.
Tau Game Lodge, in the Madikwe Game Reserve in South Afric, has introduced 3 Hippo's to their water hole.
The hippos join elephants, white and black rhino, hyena, cheetah, buffalo, leopard, and several antelope species as well as endangered wild dogs.
"Tau Game Lodge is thrilled to have the hippos roaming in and around our waterhole " says Barry Wallace."
At the end of last month, the three hippos - one male and two females (one of which is heavily pregnant) - were captured around the Phalaborwa area and relocated to the malaria free Madikwe Game Reserve.
Transported in three separate crates and off loaded one by one, the two female hippos first took up residence in their new watering hole, followed by the young male.
"The three hippos have been relaxing in and out the water and have happily adjusted to their new environment. They have also begun exploring their new home and some of the smaller dams close to the Lodge," adds Wallace.
