It’s the one-day that Cape Town - known for its exquisite beauty - is swathed in its most elegant, glorious and colourful creations.
The city’s events calendar is packed with much-loved adventures. And they are crowned by a favourite celebration of glamour, colour and flair: the J&B Met turns 33-years-old on 30th January 2010.
The J&B Met has a heritage of its own, it is intrinsically linked to the history of the country and development of horse racing in South Africa.
The race really came alive for those outside of racing circles when in 1977 J&B stepped in as sponsor and the J&B Met as we know it today was born.
The J&B Met attracts a crowd of 50 000 enthusiasts who have gone to town in dressing up for the event. Fashion sales prior to the J&B Met have reached record highs in recent years. Last year alone, the event generated R20 million in fashion sales in Cape Town alone.
The J&B Met is aptly positioned between fashion seasons, assisting retailers to sell out their summer ranges.
This year sees another colourful J&B Met with a bold fashion theme aptly entitled “In full colour”. The country’s hottest designers – including Cape Town favourites Hip Hop - are already sewing furiously to wrap a host of celebrities in this year’s theme.
