October events calendar

From kites and roses, to Oktoberfest, to rocking Daisies

Ready to rumble? Ready for spring and summer? We're ten months into the year and things are heating up! It's the scariest time of year with Halloween just around the corner (31st October) so start planning your outfit.

Many events are happening in Cape Town and surrounds this October that are sure to make it a memorable month.

Our selection of October’s annual events you don’t wanna miss

The International Kite Festival in Muizenberg is a charity event that has grown to tremendous proportions; where locals bring the biggest kites in the world together. Watch the pros take up the most amazing kites and learn how to fly a kite yourself a little more every year.

Whether you live here or you’re simply visiting the Cape, you must have some passion for the good things in life. Off you go to the Wine on a River in Robertson. On the banks of the Breede River you won’t be able to resist enjoying life, what with live music, tasting of up to 300 wines, cheese, olives, chocolate and picnics. Spend the weekend in the Robertson Wine Valley and enjoy this family friendly, open-air wine festival at the Goudmyn Farm, between Robertson and Bonnievale.

It just started off with roses, now it is the Montagu Rose and Art Show. The annual Rose Show focuses mainly on the splendor of bowls of roses and single roses, labeled for easy identification, and will be complemented by paintings from the Montagu Art Association.

MOL Fees or "Musiek Oppie Lande" is an annual Music Festival held in the delightful Swartland town of Malmesbury, north of Cape Town. Some of the biggest South African Afrikaans artists will perform, you can enjoy wines from the Swartland Wine Route and participate in lots of outdoor experiences such as mountain biking, 4x4 and horse riding trips.

First held in 1993, the Gun Run is a popular, yearly half-marathon that winds its way through the heart of Cape Town. Starting and finishing at Hamiltons Rugby Club in Green Point, the route passes the V&A Waterfront, travelling through the city's central business district and along Sea Point promenade, before returning to Green Point for the finish.

Rocking The Daisies
festival has a rocking reputation. It’s an environmentally friendly music and lifestyle festival, full of music, good food, good people and great times. If you’re up for a weekend in Darling rocking between the daisies, filled with smiling people, camping, live music, comedy, good food, green projects and a chilled atmosphere; then be sure to make a date with the Daisies.

Aber natürlich! It’s October and Oktoberfest time again, when beer lovers all over the world have the perfect excuse to sample different beers and celebrate with live music and hearty food! The Paulaner Brauhaus brings you the 193-year tradition of the original Bavarian Oktoberfest with fun, laughter and entertainment including traditional Bavarian games at the Paulaner Brauhaus Oktober Fest. Prost!

The Baxter Dance Festival is regarded as Cape Town’s premier dance platform. The festival aims to provide emerging and established dance companies and choreographers with an opportunity to present their work, whilst striving to nurture and promote dance talent in the Western Cape. Expect cutting edge dance performances and new talent.

Again, October time is also Halloween time. Be on the lookout for Halloween-parties in Cape Town’s restaurants and clubs in our events calendar closer to the time.

*PLEASE NOTE* All dates are subject to change
