Things to do this Mother’s Day

Bouquet workshop, sip and paint, free swing dancing + more

Last updated: Tuesday, 7 May 2024

We’ve rounded up amazing ways to make Mother’s Day extra special this year. There’s a flower bouquet workshop, fine dining in a 1920s manor, swing dancing sessions and you can even make your own lipstick. Here are eight things to do with the mom(s) in your life.

MAKE A FLOWER BOUQUET

Everyone gets their mom flowers on Mother’s Day. Why not let her make own bouquet instead? Bunches for Africa is hosting a high tea and flower workshop at their warehouse. You can learn the art of floral arrangements from floral experts while enjoying cake, tea, and coffee. Your ticket includes all the workshop necessities.

Date: Saturday, 12 May; 9.30am to 12pm
Cost: R400pp; R750 for two people, book via Quicket

TASTE WINE IN A CAVE

Looking for a wine tasting that’s a little different? Klein Roosboom is a boutique winery where you can do a tasting in one of six themed caves, like The Kitchen or Versaille. Listen to the stories of the farm’s vines and wines, then have lunch or go for a picnic

Date: Tuesdays to Saturdays, 9am - 5pm; Sundays, 8.30am - 4pm
Cost: R95 for wine tasting

SIP AND PAINT

Sip on a mum-mosa or two as you enjoy breakfast, and dive into a step-by-step abstract portrait painting session hosted by Tiny Owls Baby Home. The session will be led by local artist Alani Nel, using works inspired by Matisse (think Manet and Japanese art). No prior art experience is required and all art supplies are included.

Date: Sunday, 12 May; 9.30am to 11.30am
Cost: R350pp, book via Quicket

Guests will be served from the a la carte menu and receive a complimentary glass of the Serendipity rosé. Price includes a take-home gift for Mom. You can also book a wine tasting.
