A “Bizzare” encounter at Cape Town’s latest trance club
Vision comes to Light with the Design Indaba 2010
The Culmination of 13 Years Experience Means the 2010 Design Indaba was the Best Yet
''Design Indaba is a celebration of design in a country iconic of the triumph of the human spirit. Proof that even the most intractable problem can be neutralized by the will of the people, resurgent South Africa is a beacon to the world.''
It is frequently described as the biggest and best design conference in Africa -even winning the prestigious EIBTM award in the best conference in the world category. Celebrating the creativity of thought in pretty much every conceivable medium - the Design Indaba is a triumph of versatility and diversity.
The expo includes advertising, architecture, craft, décor, film, fashion, graphic design, interior design, jewellery, new media, publishing, product design and visual media. It has proven an event for everyone, a veritable feast of the creative process and product.
Celebrating its 13th incarnation this year, the Design Indaba promises to be- as it has been every year, bigger and better than the last. The expo showcases over 260 different exhibitors, each one approved by, as their website tells it, 'an advisory panel of top South African designers, stylists, critics and industry experts.'
An endeavour that leads over 200 international buyers to visit our shores in anticipated appreciation of our innovative creativity, proof of the credibility and authenticity on offer.
More than 40 speakers and 2500 delegates
The conference ( which also won the Best Live Event at the Loerie Awards 2007 ) plays host to more than 40 speakers and 2500 delegates, this year as in all prior, offering a widening buffet from which to satisfy your intellectual and creative pallet.
Cape Town's Design Indaba is the birth child of Ravi Naidoo, who firmly believes that the immense creativity that South Africa has to offer can be utilized to further real economic growth. Mr Naidoo is actively involved in policies for social change -as is evident by the Indaba itself, which leads to, through the act of higher thinking, processes which in turn lead to a more responsible consciousness and social awareness (as well as the physical initiatives the Indaba offers, for example the Design Indaba Trust and Low-cost housing project) .
As Bruce Mau stated during his lecture at 2009's conference, ''Design is the human capacity to plan and produce desired outcomes.'' The indaba comes together as a culmination of that fact - the desired end result for artists' ambitions and motivations. Here you are given the opportunity to soak up all the intensely creative outpourings that South Africa has to offer, its pedigree and expanse becoming more assured every year.
The Design Indaba has become a Capetonian institution, standing testament to all the brilliance that Africa has to offer.
