In the spirit of Cape Town's first Carnival which takes place from 18 till 20 March, Perdeberg Winery has released a range of special edition charity wine.
Not only is the Cape Town Carnival a celebration of Cape Town culture through music, art and dance; it is also a community project and Perdeberg winery have decided to join in the festive spirit of giving something back.
Showcasing the spirit of Cape Town
The highly anticipated Cape Town Carnival parade of over 2000 vibrant participants is the main event at the Carnival and takes inspiration from the world-famous parade in Rio. The parade takes place on Saturday, 20 March 2010 and is free of charge.
Starting with a music concert at Greenmarket Square at 18:00 where six original Carnival songs will be performed by popular local artists, a scene of singing and dancing will be set. The parade will then move all the way down Long Street, showcasing spectacular floats and costumes telling stories of Cape Town.
Festive wine to celebrate the magic
Neil Pendock, South Africa's leading independent drinks commentator and most trusted wine palate in 2007 according to South African wine consumers, volunteered his time and valued experience to help create the Perdeberg Cape Town Carnival Special Edition wines. The full range of celebratory wines includes Chenin Blanc and Sauvigon Blanc, Viogner, Shiraz, Pinotage and a sparkling Rosé.
According to Pendock's cheery tasting notes the Chenin and Sauvignon are ‘zingy, zippy and zaftig which is Noo Yawk Tawk for juicy'. The texture of the reds are described as "crushed rose petals as smooth as cashmere with sour cherry/tangerine Lifesaver flavours without the hole in the middle for your tongue to play with" while the Rosé is said to have a "Turkish Delight and ripe, jammy plum" nose and "watermelon with a splash of lime" on the palate.
Proceeds from the Perdeberg special edition Carnival wine will go towards the people that are building the floats for the Cape Town Carnival parade and all those behind the scenes that make the magic happen.
