City Bowl Market
This charming city centre market operates in an old school hall once a week (Thursday night) and prides itself on bringing people together in a relaxed environment over the common denominator of good food. The 30- to 40-odd vendors change regularly, but the fare’s always enjoyable and well priced and the vibe’s always warm and inviting. Not to mention, as it's an evening affair, the bazaar takes on a fun-loving, party-esque atmosphere (there’s craft beer on draught), live music’s typically on the cards and, once a month, a fashion show and wine tasting are on the bill. The market runs from 4:30pm to 8:30pm on Thursdays.

V&A Market on the Wharf
Housed in the Waterfront’s historic Old Power Station, this Monday-to-Sunday market is the Mother City’s first permanent food bazaar. Meaning that, unlike the countless pop-up Saturday and Sunday affairs, Market on the Wharf gives both locals and tourists the chance to cruise the more than 50 stalls and meet for a light bite 7 days a week from 9:30am to 6pm. The bazaar focuses on both global cuisine and traditional favourites, so it’s just as possible to devour an authentic German pretzel and Belgian waffles as it is to tuck into spicy Durban curry or delicious South African biltong. And while the spacious double-storey venue boasts plenty of indoor seating, the outdoor tables flaunt breathtaking views of the Waterfront’s working harbour and majestic Table Mountain. So, grab the little ones – there’s a special kiddies’ area – and spend a relaxing lunch or early dinner at this colourful market – if you’re lucky, there may even be some live music on the go.
