Very Capetonian, very good
How can I say this right? It seems like Cape Town eateries were in puberty for a very long time... but over the past few years they’re growing up. You know these places we call very Capetonian? Yes, that’s what I’m talking about. The Woodlands Eatery in Vredehoek has been around since early 2011 and is already a place with character. It knows what Cape Town wants and it delivers.
They’ve got it right with the décor. A haven for lampshade lovers, cute illustrations in all kinds of frames and a variety of mirrors. It’s light, a little rustic and most of all very cute. Girls will love it and all the arty and very Capetonian boys will too. I overhear someone talking about the Woodlands Eatery saying that it has 'a beautiful shabby chic ambience'. That’s right. It’s comfortable, casual and very foodie-orientated. I have a cranberry juice and the most delicious mushroom and artichoke pizza with goats cheese and cherry tomatoes (R55).
I will come back. Not only, because I have to get to know Vredehoek a little better, but this is it. It explains Cape Town. The restaurant simply knows what it’s doing. It’s easy-going but the food and atmosphere is quality.
Have a beer or a glass of wine on the terrace, feel the breeze and enjoy Capetonian life.
