Imagine coming for a holiday to Cape Town and anticipating a little taste of wildlife. Visiting a game reserve when in Cape Town must be on your list. It is a completely different experience for example, compared to Kruger Park.
If you want to understand how wildlife roamed the Cape hundreds of years ago and wouldn’t mind a different way to see rhino, wildebeest or hippopotami, Aquila Private Game Reserve offers unique and excellent quad bike safaris.
Even if you are not into hard-core action activities or you are a professional business man or lady we imagine anyone with a taste for adventure would enjoy this safari.
It’s liberating to let your hair down and get your heart beating a little faster, especially when you need to change direction because there’s a rhino in your path!
A quad bike safari through the 4500 hectares of Aquila Private Game Reserve is an absolutely unique and adventurous way to experience a game reserve (2 hours from Cape Town).
On the quad bike safari you are looked after and guided by two experienced game rangers, who will thoroughly explain how to drive a quad bike and change gears, as well as teaching you great things like where the word giraffe comes from.
Someone who has never been on a quad bike will easily get the hang of it and soon feel like an action hero in the Cape bushveld, surrounded by its native animal inhabitants.
Doing the combo safari (game drive & quad bike) will give you the best chance of seeing the Big Five, but you still have the chance to view many of them when going on the quad bike safari. The feeling of sitting with 250CC Horsepower between your legs more than makes up for it if you don’t get to see all of the Big 5.
It might be tempting to race each other and do “doughnuts” in the road, (it really is!), but the objective of this safari is to see beautiful game such as rhino, Springbok, hippo (including the new born calf), Cape buffalo, elephant and kudu and not play games – as tempting as it might be.
The quad bikes, and the rangers, at Aquila Private Game Reserve are as tough as the Fynbos and Renosterveld (Rhino-field) terrain you will be driving on so there is no reason to be scared.
Renosterveld is characterised by the dominance of the Daisy family, and most of the shrubs are identified by their small, tough, grey leaves.
The interesting part of enjoying the wild in this way is that you suddenly come to the realisation that you are there with the wildlife, on the tough terrain by yourself…so to speak.
The quad bike safari at Aquila can be done by overnight or day visitors over the age of 16 and lasts for 2 hours.
We think doing an overnight safari gives you the real wildlife experience, with an evening game drive and dinner in front of a fire outside under the beautiful stars.
