Bespoke menus, wine pairings, and timeless interiors
What started out as an intimate ceremonial blessing to celebrate the end of the harvest at Eikendal more than 20 years ago, has now evolved into a not-to-be-missed highlight on the social calendar, attracting a vibrant crowd each year.
Families and friends can look forward to a merry blend of laid-back entertainment, local country food, wine tastings, vineyard tractor rides, a live music performance and loads of fun for the kids - allowing Mom and Dad to chill out on the lawn.
After the baptism of Eikendal’s first wine of the 2010 harvest – the cellar’s flagship Chardonnay – visitors get to taste it straight from the barrel in celebration of the fruit of the vine.
Known especially in Austria as a festival just after the wine harvest, Weintaufe literally means ‘wine christening’. A ‘godfather’ is usually chosen to name the first wine of the harvest.
Bring your picnic blanket and claim your spot for a magical ending to the weekend. Delicious food and wine will be on sale, so why not swap the Sunday roast for a sublime afternoon under the oaks in the great company of Eikendal.
Entrance for adults is R60 per person and includes a complimentary glass and barrel tasting, visitors under the age of 18 get in for FREE.
Tickets will be available at Eikendal prior to the event or at the gates on the day, the gates open at 10am, with the baptism of the new wine at 12h00.
Eikendal is situated on the R44, midway between Stellenbosch and Somerset West and is a popular destination of both the Stellenbosch and Helderberg Wine Routes.
