My Cape Town Weekend in the Company Gardens

Celebrate Heritage Day in Cape Town – for a whole week!

As part of Cape Town Tourism’s My Cape Town Weekend programme, and in celebration of Iziko Heritage Week (20 – 26 September 2010), Cape Town’s Company Gardens will be offering a series of special events on the long weekend of the 24 to 26 September 2010.

My Cape Town Weekend in the Company Gardens promises free entrance to most of the museums in and around the vicinity and means that families can truly explore the heritage that is Cape Town –including the Slave Lodge, the SA National Gallery and SA Museum, the SA Jewish Museum and Holocaust Centre and the Crypt Project at St. Georges Cathedral.

The centre piece of the event is, of course, the Company Gardens itself, which dates back to the 1650’s and has played a big role in our cultural heritage, starting as the vegetable garden of the Dutch East India Company and now a favourite recreational space for locals and visitors alike. 

The Company Gardens is also a cultural hub, surrounded by the Labia Theatre, the Gordon Institute for Performing and Creative Arts at the UCT Hiddingh Campus, the National Library of South Africa and the Centre for the Book – all of which have special programmes running during the course of Iziko Heritage Week, as well as during Creative Week Cape Town (24 September – 3 October 2010).
