We make a pilgrimage to nightlife's hedonistic new church
In an old brick warehouse with great wooden columns in Green Point's Bennett Street Trinity offers a super-sized, state-of-the-art entertainment and restaurant Mecca reminiscent of the UK's 'super clubs'. After our pilgrimage to this multi-level restaurant and opulent nightclub that will host jazz, comedy and a who's who of the world's best DJ's we've got a sneaky feeling that this sensational new venue will shake up nightlife in Cape Town.
Level 1:
You enter the main entrance where you are greeted by friendly hostesses and through the next set of doors you stand in a glass box overlooking the street below. The Trinity Cafe which offers light breakfasts, pizzas and burgers features a central fully-working pipe organ which ascends through all three levels of the venue and is surrounded by a stage that hosts regular comedy and jazz nights. You also notice a food bar, drinks bar and unisex toilets.
Level 2:
The Trinity Grill offers you a menu of soups, salads, seafood and steaks and is set by marble counter tops whilst the Trinity Cocktail Bar offers a broad selection of cocktails and shooters. You wander into a private function and dining room called The Cube which features a dance floor, a DJ booth and Oregon pine floors.
After a couple of cocktails to get you in the mood you're ready to join revellers in the Funktion One Nightclub. Through grand Indian Temple doors you see a raised bar with four LCD screens and a motorized projection screen whilst a DJ spins minimal techno and house beats from the pulpit of a 7m long stage. The water feature in the centre of the dance floor is a vibrant array of colours and smoke as well as a statue of three angels. A mezzanine level with comfortable couches overlooks the dance floor and provides relief from the action on the dance floor.
Aside from unique visual features you're impressed with the nightclub's 'Funktion One' sound system which is the first to be used in South Africa. The state-of-the-art system has provided live concert sound for Massive attack, featured at Glastonbury festival and at night spots in Paris, New York, London and Tokyo. Coupled with screens and projectors the venue is ideal for watching sports, product launches and conferences.
Through glass entrance doors you enter the exclusive, members only Salon Prive whose carpets carry the Trinity logo and complement traditional upholstered furniture, ottomans and leather bar seats. Your membership package offers you access to the opulent Salon Prive as well as rewards on food and drinks, accommodation in the city, first notice of upcoming events and guest list.
Level 3:
You enter an intimate restaurant with airport lounge-style viewing windows and direct access to the roof garden and Salon Prive. You browse a menu filled with Asian delights from expert local chefs including sushi platters and Thai dishes. You take the stairs to an enchanting roof top garden featuring vertically-planted vegetation reflected in mirrors, cantilevered umbrellas for summer and cosy fireplaces for winter.
Trinity will open on 15th December and feature UK DJ sensation James Zabielia, Cape Town based Trinity resident Dean Fuel, Chris Jack, Anthea and Ivan (Killer Robot). Tickets are R100 pre-sold from Webtickets and R120 on the door (15 Bennett Street | Green Point | Cape Town | +27 (0)21 418 0624).
