2010 Breakfast Series at Green Point Visitor's Centre

Stadium Roof Structural Genius for Starters

The Green Point Stadium Visitor Centre - host of the bi-weekly 2010 Lecture Series - is starting the 2010 Breakfast Series to accommodate speakers eager to use the popular platform.

The lecture series was initiated by the Centre in February 2008 to enable the public to engage with experts who are integrally involved in South Africa’s preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

The first in the Breakfast
series on 6 August is Knut Goeppert, award-winning structural engineer, author and Managing Director at the Berlin-based Schlaich Bergermann und Partner.

His company has been involved in 15 soccer World Cup stadiums over the last 10 years, and is currently working on four of South Africa’s 2010 stadiums.

But it is the magnificent 2010 Green Point Stadium roof that has him really excited. “Now we see it” says Goeppert, “the reality beats all drawings and computer animated images. This is the most elegant stadium we have been involved with.”

The 36 000 m2 translucent hanging roof, started in September 2008, is due for completion on deadline in September 2009.

“The schedule for the 2010 Lecture Series, which is held in the evenings, is fully booked, so we’ve extended it this way”, said Silvana Dantu, Director of the Visitor Centre. “The demand from both speakers and the public to interface in this way has created the need to schedule more of these presentations. The auditorium at the Visitor Centre, next to the new stadium, is the perfect venue – people can look out over the stadium and connect the dots”.

Upcoming speakers include Teral Cullen 2010 FIFA OC Venue Manager for Cape Town who will speak on the 2010 Volunteer Programme and Women’s Participation in 2010; Lorraine Gerrans, Manager: 2010 Green Goal, City of Cape Town; Adele Klingenberg, Manager: Infrastructure, Planning & Integration, ACSA; Sugen Pillay, Global Manager: Events, SA Tourism and Guy Lundy, CEO, Accelerate Cape Town.

A continental breakfast
will be served at 07:30 – the presentation will be from 08:00 – 10:00

Attendance at the
“Structural Genius” breakfast on 6 August is by rsvp only. For bookings contact Lana or Bernadette on 021 430 0410/8 or e-mail info@greenpointstadiumvc.co.za
