On 8 April John Perlman talks about his project "Growing Dreams Through the Beautiful Game of Soccer"
John Perlman, South Africa’s most respected talk show host has tackled some of the country’s biggest stories. Now he has taken on another challenge: “Growing Dreams Through the Beautiful Game of Soccer.”
Former AM Live Presenter on SAFM, John initiated The Dreamfields Project in October 2007. “Our dream”, says John “is to put resources for playing soccer into township and rural schools across South Africa — quickly, efficiently and in a way that reaches the most remote corners of our country.”
In its simplest form, Dreamfields is all about a DreamBag which contains enough kit to equip a 15-player team. To date more than 500 DreamBags have been given out countrywide, and five soccer fields have been built – all in rural areas – and the construction of two more began in early March.
“The Dreamfields journey has been joyous and satisfying, but it has also raised some tough questions – and the answers are not yet in.” says John.
