Week Two of the International Summer Music Festival in Cape Town


Line-up for Cape Town International Summer Music Festival Week Two:

Festival Concert 7: Symphony Concert
Date: 25 November

A special concert to celebrate the 80th birthday of the well-known local pianist/composer Thomas Rajna. He will play his own second Piano Concerto together with the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Arjan Tien, while three songs from his “Valley Songs” will be performed by soprano Golda Schultz.

Festival Concert 8: Symphony Concert
Date: 27 November

Two exciting young South African pianists are the soloists during the concert by the CPO on 27 November in the City Hall under conductor Arjan Tien. 17-year old Jan Hugo plays Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, while Ben Schoeman plays Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Also on the programme is Liszt’s “Les Préludes”.

Festival Concert 9: Symphony Concert
Date: 28 November

The Huberte Rupert Memorial Concert is conducted by Arjan Tien on 28 November in the Endler Hall, Stellenbosch (20:00). The exciting young South African soloists are the 17-year old Jan Hugo playing Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1, and Ben Schoeman playing Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1. Also on the programme is Liszt’s “Les Préludes”.

Festival Concert 10: Choral Concert
Date: 28 November

The visiting Choir Of The Holy Trinity, St Sergius Lavra, Moscow performs a programme of Russian Orthodox choral singing in St George’s Cathedral at 20:00 on 28 November. The programme by one of the most prominent Russian church choirs includes motets and music by Russian Church composers spanning several centuries until the present day.
