Upcoming Capetonian Jazz Band is a must hear for all jazz lovers
This upcoming Cape Town based Jazz band - consisting of Standard Bank Young Artist of the Year Kesivan Naidoo on drum kit, Reza on guitar, Ronan Skillen on Tabla and Shane Cooper on Bass - has recently performed to great acclaim at the Standard Bank Jazz Festival in Grahamstown.
The band was also nominated for the South African Music awards earlier this year and are close to international fame.
With all of them swarming around Europe and the rest of the world in their younger years, it was Shane Cooper who brought the band together in 2006 and all of these musical experiences resulted in their own innovative sound.
The Quartet Babu uses Indian classical inspired composition with Jazz and Western classical idiosyncrasies. The compositions make use of Ragas and Talas as well as Jazz forms and harmonies. The music searches for the heart of the raga's tale, its eternal sound sentiment.
