Cape Town's Downward Dash 2009
Be part of this awesome 20 km dash from Langebaan to Saldanha
The Langebaan Downwind Dash kitesurfing event is the longest running wind-powered race in South Africa, and is now in its 23rd year.
The 17 km course between Langebaan and Saldanha is one of the few events where windsurfers and kitesurfers go head to head. The 2006 event attracted over 100 participants, with about a 50/50 split between the windsurfers and the kitesurfers.
The fastest time for the kitesurfing race was done by Peter Slate in 1999 who screamed down the course in 18 minutes.
In 2005 Patrick Diethelm claimed victory on a F2 board, completing the course in 21 minutes and 18 seconds. This represents an average speed of around 48km/h with their boards and kites.
