DMC DJ Championships
The quest to find the best spin doctor has begun
This event is the qualifying round for promising DJs in the Cape Town area, featuring supporting acts DJ Hamma & Klinikal. The event will be hosted by PHFat.
The DMC DJ Battles/Championships are the longest running and most prestigious DJ competitions in the world. In the DMC battles, legends are made.
Being a DMC World or national champion continues to be one of the most sought-after titles for turntablists worldwide!
DMC DJ Champions have gone on to do major work within the music industry.
A few examples include;
Roc Raida with Busta Rhymes,
A-Trak with Kanye West,
Mix Master Mike with The Beastie Boys,
DJ Enferno with Madonna,
DJ Babu with Dilated Peoples.
The competition has grown since its inception at the 1985 DMC DJ Convention and is now hosted in over 32 countries.
Technics introduced the golden turntables as the main prize in 1989; this unique and priceless trophy is given to the newly -crowned world champion.
The competition runs annually with the culmination being the world finals in the UK.
The events will be held at The Woods in Johannesburg on 6 June 2009 and at Fiction Bar in Cape Town on 13 June 2009. The top 3 DJs will be selected from each of these heats.
These DJs will perform at the South African Finals, which will take place at Mercury Live in Cape Town on Fri 31 July 2009.
This grand finale will crown a South African Champion who will then go on to perform at the World Final in the UK. This DJ will have 6 minutes to compete against the world’s best.
