The 2009 False Bay Sevens Tournament will be taking place at False Bay RFC in Constantia in Cape Town.
The False Bay Sevens Tournament was first played in 1965 and was stand alone event organised by the current False Bay RFC President Louis De Waal.
The event was staged under the same name until the early 1980’s and thereafter taken over by the Western Province Rugby Union and named the Western Province Seven-a-Side Tournament.
The last tournament was staged in 1990 and won by Stellenbosch University.
The event will feature both a Junior Division (u19) and two Senior Divisions (Club League and Social League). Maximum of 16 Teams per Division divided into four pools: A, B, C, and D.
Similar to the IRB Sevens format, at the conclusion of the pool stages, the top two teams from each pool will compete in the Gold competition and the bottom two teams will fight for honours in the Silver competition.
There are awesome prizes and cash for the top teams and hotshot players.
Flat Stanley, one on South Africa’s top bands will be performing live on Saturday 03 October 2009 at 8.30pm and will round off what is sure to be an awesome weekend.
Play starts at 16:00 on Thursday for the junior division, 17:00 on Friday and 15:00 on the Saturday for the senior division.
