The seventh Wines of Hermanus and Overberg Region Wine Festival, with around 20 cellars participating, offers wine lovers the opportunity to taste around 100 of the wines that are produced between Elgin and Elim.
While celebrating a relatively young wine region, this year’s Festival also commemorates 350 years of winemaking in South Africa.
Winemakers here build on this proud winemaking tradition in an area which, given its cool climate, is being recognised as South Africa’s premium wine-growing region.
Not only do the country’s most famous Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs come from the area, it has also received the Terroir Award for best Cabernet Franc growing conditions. The cool sea breeze adds to the bouquet, making it possible to produce a wide array of styles of Sauvignon Blanc.
These Festivals afford holiday-makers and tourists the opportunity to taste of the best the region has to offer in the comfort of one destination. There’s no better way to experience Overberg hospitality and get to know the local wines and winemakers.
It will be a great outing for the whole family; children are welcome and entertained with free movies, free hot dogs and sugar-free juice in a totally safe environment. Parents can relax and take it easy, meet new friends, taste wine and enjoy a casual dinner.
This Festival offers visitors the chance to experience the wide variety of award-winning and premium wine styles of the Overberg region.
On arrival, wine lovers are presented with a wine and food pairing menu to help unlock the exciting and inherent tastes when matching the right food with the right wine.
Throughout the evening lucky draws allow tasters to take home wine prizes from participating cellars. Live music adds to the festive atmosphere and kiddies under 10 qualify for free hotdogs and sugar-free juice!
