The Blue Shed Craft Centre at the Waterfront will come alive with Dutch art works from four of Holland's best artists from 13 July 2008
Four Cape-based Dutch-born contemporary artists exhibit work that reflects their unique perception of Dutch identity.
An introduction to the four artists exhibition at Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront this July:
Heleen Verwey - Heleen Verwey has been working as a full-time artist for the past fifteen years. She says, “Living in South Africa for the past nine years has strengthened my sense of my Dutch cultural identity. This had evoked my curiosity for Delft Blue and Ming Blue, which play an important role in my current work.”
Marina Aarts - Marina Aarts initially was a legal counsellor but decided to follow her passion and obtained her Bachelor of Fine Art degree in 2005 at the Utrecht School of the Arts in the Netherlands. In 2007 she moved to Cape Town and has worked as a full-time artist since, in both painting and photography.
Ellen Elmendorp - Ellen Elmendorp is a Dutch freelance photojournalist and documentary photographer. She moved to Johannesburg in 1988 and is currently residing in Cape Town. Her work has been published in most major international and local publications. In 1992 she won a Fuji award for her pictures of Orania, an exclusively white settlement in the Northern Cape.
Renée Scheltema - Renée Scheltema is a Dutch photographer and documentary filmmaker. Renée has been working for newspapers, magazines and TV in Holland, the US and South Africa for the past 25 years. Several of her films, such as “Hush, a portrait of artist Tracy Payne” and “Seven Days in Burma” have been selected for international film festivals; she is currently working on a film on spirituality.
