New in Gold of Africa Museum: Icons of India & BeadJewelled
The Gold of Africa Museum in Cape Town has two new exhibitions; Icons of India & BeadJewelled, a magical synergy of old & new gold techniques and tradition, originating from two continents.
The Gold of Africa Museum in Cape Town has two new exhibitions: Icons of India consisting of 38 pieces of antique Indian gold jewelry and one called BeadJewelled.
The latter one consists of pieces of beaded jewelry and panels created by Ubuhle Beautiful Beads.
Ubuhle Beautiful Beads is an organization created by Beverley Gibson and Ntombenhi Ntombela from the KwaZulu-Natal province.
These two women have the mission to give give other women the opportunity to overcome poverty, just like they did, and to (re)build their spirits.
The women of Ubuhle Beautiful Beads have found inspiration in the Indian collection of antique golden jewelry: Their creations are based on the design of the Indian pieces while drawing on traditional African beading techniques.
The result? A magical, wonderful, breathtaking synergy of old and new gold techniques and tradition, originating from two different continents.
The exhibition will be on display at the Gold of Africa Museum in Cape Town until 8 January 2006.
