Hot on the heels of Anyone Seen My Goat? multi-lingual stand-up comic Nik Rabinowitz is back with his hoof kicking new show One Man One Goat.
Covering everything from arrests to accusations and trials to tribal relations, One Man One Goat is an inspired, colourful journey across the rough terrain of the new South Africa, as we track one goat's quest for freedom.
Rabinowitz's animated and offbeat humour astutely captures the goat-eat-goat world of today in an hour of rollicking fun.
Promising to be as riotously funny as its predecessor, One Man One Goat has an additional facet in that it is supporting Western Cape based non-governmental and non-profit organisation IKAMVA LABANTU with a percentage of ticket sales for the entire run and one dedicated charity show on December 17th.
Launched in 1992, the organisation is the result of a coordination of survival initiatives set up during the Apartheid era and is headed by community social activist Helen Lieberman. Their focus is on self-reliant and sustainable community-based organisations facilitating positive social change.
"iKamva's work in empowering disadvantaged people is extraordinary, and it's vital Cape Town is aware of and supports what they're up to", says Rabinowitz. "I like to remind audiences that it only takes one man, woman or goat to stand up and make a difference!" This is a philosophy that is close to Rabinowitz's heart.
Following a degree in Business Science with a Masters in Organisational Psychology, he spent a year managing a theatre company around the Southern African bush and by the end of that the stage-bug had bitten.
Says Rabinowitz: "In Africa, we've got the whole spectrum; from extraordinary beauty to terrifying brutality. In one moment you can be completely inspired, in the next utterly disillusioned... there isn't much grey area. Strangely that's what I think we love about this place - its on the edgeness - there's aliveness that comes with that, not to mention a rich vein of comedic inspiration!''
