Sure Thing Fridays at The Dragon Room
Progressive house, electro and swing beatsat The Dragon Room
Tchaikovsky's spellbinding score will be brought to life by
the Cape Philharmonic under the direction of British-born composer &
conductor, Michael Hankinson, & by the dancers of South Africa's oldest
ballet company, The Cape Town City Ballet. This production features the popular
husband & wife team, Marianne Bauer & Coert Grobbelaar as Aurora and Prince
Florimund, Robin van Wyk as the evil fairy Carabosse & Christy Johnson the
benevolent Lilac Fairy
First staged in 1975 by David Poole after Petipa, The
Sleeping Beauty has remained one of the most popular ballets in the classical
repertoire & other versions are performed regularly world wide. Sleeping
Beauty enthralls the young, with diverts such as Little Red Riding Hood, Puss
in Boots & the Blue Bird pas de deux in Act 3, but also satisfies the
discerning ballet lover with the breath-taking Rose Adage from Act 1 & the
famous Grand Pas in Act 3
Executive Director Elizabeth Triegaardt, Poole's original
Lilac Fairy, has reproduced CTCB's 2006 production for the company. 'We owe it to David Poole, the dancers of then & now, the
world of classical dance & the dancers of the future to keep classics such as
The Sleeping Beauty alive' says CTCB's Elizabeth Triegaardt
