Viva the Music with Classical Cool Cats at The Baxter Theare

Celebrate Youth Day with a music programme performed by kids for kids at the Baxter Concert Hall

The Baxter Theatre Centre will celebrate Youth Day with Viva the Music with Classical Cool Cats, an entertaining and educative programme of music performed by kids for kids.

Created and directed by well-known
Cape Town opera diva Aviva Pelham, this performance will introduce you to a dazzling array of musical instruments performed by children and young adults - starting with the smallest violin and moving on to the huge double bass, then from the tiniest piccolo to the large tuba and then moving on to the woodwinds and percussion.

She is accompanied by over 60 young musicians of all ages, with the youngest performer just four years old, all of them playing a range of styles from jazz and African to classical in orchestral ensembles, wind bands, strings and many more.

An exciting new act this year is the Pink Angels - two sisters, Lisa and Karla Brits, ages 9 and 12, who will be performing two duets, harp and voice as well as harp and flute.

Another talented youngster
, 11-year-old Chad Groepies, will be playing the trumpet. The grand finale will bring all the young performers together onto the stage for a resounding finish to the Youth Day event.

The Athlone School for the Blind will also be playing in the foyer before and after the performance in order to warm up the crowd and to give the children an opportunity to see the instruments up close.

Baxter Project Manager Nicolette
Moses says, “What better way to celebrate the spirit of youth in South Africa than with a music programme for kids by kids. We introduced this event two years ago and it was an instant success with the kids and families. The talent amongst these performers is overwhelming and should be encouraged - this is one way of doing it!”
