Key Elements at the Barnard Gallery
Christiaan Barnard and Paul du Toit join forces to showcase Paul’s latest exhibition entitled Key Elements
The show will comprise of 13 new paintings and 4 large aluminum sculptures.
Christiaan and Paul worked together at the start of the millennium in Cape Town and Johannesburg, when Christiaan hosted two sellout exhibitions of Paul’s work.
‘I have called this exhibition Key Elements because of the construction process I follow to create the paintings and sculptures. I have a vast forest of self-generated symbols or elements that make up my hominid figures and through constant development I have discovered key elements that I use as starting points for all my work. It is almost as if I started these large painting years ago and now I just add to it.” says Paul.
Paul’s artistic profile has risen tremendously since the last encounter with the Barnard Gallery in 2002. From the highly acclaimed exhibitions in Europe, Hong Kong, Sydney, Miami and New York to his work with former president Nelson Mandela, it has been a busy time for Paul indeed.
He is also involved with several charitable organisations including the Children’s Hospital Trust, Peninsula school feeding programme, the Homestead project for the street children of Cape Town and Nelson Mandela’s ongoing 46664 Campaign.
