Made in R.S.A by Dale Yudelman at Worldart Gallery

Exposing the links between artistic expression and the criminal mind, a social identikit seldom seen by the public is formed

'Made in R.S.A.' is an exhibition by photographer Dale Yudelman.  

Well known for his award-winning and serial convention-flouting style - in this series Yudelman carves out a sinister register of handmade knives found at crime scenes or confiscated during police searches.   
 
The works examine the origin of the weapons in relation to external circumstances, while cutting to the core of the internal world of individuals who fashion an object with the motive to protect or injure.

Dale Yudelman’s career in photography has led him through two eras of South African history and across several continents. Born in Johannesburg, he began photographing at a young age under the tutelage of his father and was barely out of his teens in 1979 when he landed a job as staff photographer at South Africa’s largest daily newspaper The Star.

In 1986 Yudelman left South Africa and worked as a freelance photographer London and later in Los Angeles, returning to South Africa in 1996, where he currently lives and works in Cape Town.
