Break free from the spell of hibernation and head up to the quiet seaside town of Gordon’s Bay, for the annual Winter Wonderland Festival of Lights, which takes place this year from Friday, 29 June to Sunday, 1 July 2018 and Friday 6, July to Sunday, 8 July 2018.
Gordon’s Bay is safely nestled against the slopes of the Hottentots-Holland mountain range andis protected from the Cape’s biting, cold wind. In honour of the pleasantly surprising temperate winter season, local restaurants, pubs and businesses dress their establishments in twinkling fairy lights. Visitors and residents are treated to excellent entertainment and activities and can warm themselves from the inside out with the hearty winter food on offer.
WHAT TO EXPECT AT THE 2018 FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS
The 2018 Winter Wonderland Festival, which has been extended to run over two weekends this year, is once again set to be a fantastic fiesta with street parades, wine tastings, a beer tent and foods from all over the world. All festival activities are happening at “Carnival Park” which is located in Hendon Park on Gordon’s Bay’s beautiful beach.
Festival-goers of all ages can find something that tickles their fancy among the smorgasbord of events, from stomach-churning rides and games to magical markets and live music acts.
HOW MANY LIGHTBULBS DOES IT TAKE?
The whole town, from trees to historic buildings to houses up the mountain, will sparkle throughout the festival, creating a spectacle to behold from far and near. With more than 240 000 LED light bulbs spanning three kilometres in use during the fair, you can be sure that this is going to be one dazzling, unforgettable event.
TICKETS FOR THE 2018 GORDON’S BAY WINTER WONDERLAND
Entrance into the festival is R20/p and rides in the fun park cost between R10 and R50 depending on the ride.
