Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes at Kenilworth Racecourse

This lavish and extravagant equestrian event is back in the Southern Suburbs with massive winnings up for grabs.

It’s summertime and things are heating up on Cape Town’s social calendar with this high-fashion grand event. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, the 2016 Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes returns for yet another scintillating fiesta at the Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday, 19 November 2016. Presented by Cape Thoroughbred Sales, the stakes have never been higher as the horses compete for R2.5 million.

This sporting affair has established itself as one of the season’s fabulous must-attends. Horse enthusiasts, fans of fascinators and haute couture, and budding filly and colt owners can look forward to an elegant day of fashion, good food and fun in the sun while witnessing top-class thoroughbreds compete for a massive stake.

Billed as the ‘sport of kings’, horse racing is an opportunity for the who’s who of the elite, celebrities and betting gurus to step into the arena to root for their favourite (and often their own) horses in action on the green. And much like the competitions that enchanted the royalty of days gone by, the Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes looks to serve up an unforgettable afternoon of entertainment.

If you’re still not sure whether this exclusive horse racing event is worth pencilling into the calendar, here are seven scintillating reasons to check out this annual affair at the Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town!

7 REASONS TO GO TO THE 2016 LANZERAC READY TO RUN STAKES AT KENILWORTH RACECOURSE

1. GO FOR GOLD AND SEE TOP RACE HORSES COMPETE: During this fun-filled afternoon of horse racing, thoroughbreds will compete in a number of races throughout the day, with the main 1400m event offering up a grand prize of R2.5 million.

2. DRESS TO IMPRESS: No equestrian do is complete without a variety of fascinators and fabulous fashions, and as the dress code is strictly formal, patrons are encouraged to don their finest couture, fit for the upmarket event. Show off your style and grace by dressing the part and enjoy a dignified day at the races, dear.

3. GREAT VIEWS AND VIP TREATMENT: Want the full VIP treatment? Book your ticket and your space in the elite Somerset Room and bypass the crowds on the ground floor. What’s more, the VIP venue offers patrons prime vantage points to see all the action on the track, as well as delicious food and a cash bar.

4. FINE WINE AND GOURMET FOOD: Lanzerac’s Executive Chef Stephen Fraser will compile a delectable menu for the day, which will be complemented by a select array of Lanzerac’s award-winning wines. In addition, food stalls will also be on site for those who simply can’t wait to satisfy their hunger.

5. GET THE ADRENALINE PUMPING: Nothing gets the adrenaline flowing like the thrill of seeing your choice horse take the lead in a race. Whether you’re cheering on your own steed or just looking to win, place a bet on your favourite thoroughbred and watch the gorgeous creature gallop to the finish line!

6. THE PERFECT SUMMER AFFAIR: Much like strawberries, sunscreen and the smell of coconuts, horse racing is one of the many signs of summer in Cape Town and what better way to truly welcome the warmer weather than with a day of fun in the sun at the races.

7. BET SMALL, WIN BIG: The only thing as old as horse racing is the tradition of betting. Regardless of whether you’re an old hand at this game of chance or simply looking to up the ante on race day, this exclusive equestrian event offers the perfect opportunity to place some bets and win some cash. Do note that the Lanzerac Ready To Run Stakes encourages attendees to gamble responsibly. The minimum bet is R2.
