Jazz lovers, it is that time of the year again when 40 top international and local jazz musicians descend upon Cape Town to take part in the highly proclaimed jazz festival.
Organisers of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival have staged another coup. For the festival’s eleventh edition that takes place on Saturday 03 and Sunday 04 April, they have signed up two living music luminaries; the renowned guitarist/vocalist George Benson as well as United States (US) saxophonist Charles Lloyd. The two will share the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) stages with headline acts that were announced at the end of 2009.
With new sponsorship, the aim of the creators are to make this years festival better than ever.
With five stages, two nights of music and excitement - the performances are sure to blow your mind.
Some of the performers included in the line-up to take to the stage are South African’s very own jazz legend Jonathan Butler, with special guest Rick Braun and Richard Elliot from the USA; the South African band Iridium Project; Mezzoforte from Iceland; Brooklyn Funk Essentials; Stix Hojeng and 87-year old Toots Thielemans from Belgium.
This annual jazz festival is putting Cape Town on the map with many local and international people attending, so be sure not to miss out.

Jonathan Butler with special guests RICK BRAUN and Richard Elliott (RnR), Vusi Mahlasela, Rachelle Ferrell, Selaelo Selota, Michaela Rabitsch & Robert Pawlik Quartet, Judith Sephuma, Lira, George Benson - With a 28 piece orchestra, Mezzoforte, Musa Manzini, The Glenn Robertson Jazz Band, Stix Hojeng, Regina Carter's “Reverse Thread”, The Gauteng Jazz Orchestra, Delft Youth Big Band conducted By Ian Smith, Ronny Jordan Organ Trio, Paulo Flores, Sammy Hartman Project feat Robbie Jansen and Ezra Ngcukana.
Toots Thielemans, McCoy Tyner with special guest GARY BARTZ, Charles Lloyd New Quartet featuring Jason Moran, Reuben Rogers, and Eric Harland, Mervyn Africa 'Kaapse Finale', Makeson Browne and Akoustik Knot feat. Johan Hørlen, Brooklyn Funk Essentials, Iridium Project, BLK JKS, TKZee, SOIL & "PIMP" Sessions, Guru's Jazzmatazz feat Solar & The 7 Grand Players.
MiKANiC with special guests Zolani Mahola and Buddy Wells, Kesivan and the Lights feat. Feya Faku, Prof. Adrian Mears, Martin Sjöstedt, Johan Hørlen, The Bokani Dyer Trio, Tete Mbambisa, Amanda Tiffin, The Bad Plus, Marcus Wyatt and Language 12, Jason Moran and the Bandwagonv and last but not least, Melanie Scholtz.
Organisers of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival added three new bands to the lineup announced earlier on.
The three are: US keyboardist Jeff Lorber; a Dutch hip-hop duo called La Melodia and Cape Town-based guitarist Allou April. This brings to 42.
Cost:
R300p/p for a one day pass, R485p/p for a two day pass and an extra fee of R25p/p per act if you want to attend performances on the Rosies stage.
The exact time is still to be announced.
