Award-winning clarinetist Matthew Reid and pianist Pieter van Zyl will make sure the annual Nederburg Concert Series receives a vibrant 2010 kick-start when they perform at the first concert of the winter season.
These local musicians are part of the Concert Series line-up of celebrated South African and international artists that have been invited to entertain audiences at the monthly concerts from May through to November.
Reid explains their Nederburg repertoire includes works that show off the clarinet at its best. "The first half of the programme includes pieces that represent the classical, romantic, impressionistic and modern style period," he says.
"The second half is designed to be more accessible. As the clarinet is well-used in European folk music I have found pieces from the Ukraine, Lithuania and the Balkan states. Essentially we want the audience to enjoy this instrument, its use in many genres and our versatility in playing them all."
Price includes a welcoming drink, plus a light supper served with fine Nederburg wines after the concert.
