Leapin’ lizards! Annie’s on her way to brighten up your day

You can bet your bottom dollar you’ll love this show, especially if you’re a long-time fan of one of theatre’s most loved orphans. Leapin’ lizards! Annie is coming to the Artscape Opera House from Friday, 2 December 2016, until Sunday, 8 January 2017.

Produced by Pieter Toerien and Hazel Feldman, this charming rendition of the classic tale stars the brilliant Charon William-Ros (Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd) as the hilariously hateful Miss Hannigan, Neels Clasen (Mamma Mia! and We Will Rock You) as Daddy Warbucks and Taryn Sudding (CATS and Sound of Music) as Grace. Little optimistic Annie will be played by three up-and-coming actresses after an extensive nationwide search for the right star – namely, Emma-Rose Blacher, Lilla Fleischmann and Caitlin Dicker.

Here’s a quick summary of the plot: Annie is an orphan entrusted to the terrible Miss Hannigan’s care, in an orphanage in New York during the Great Depression. The sweet little girl truly lives a ‘Hard Knock Life’ until Grace comes to visit and chooses Annie to spend Christmas at the residence of famed billionaire Oliver Warbucks. There, Annie wins over everyone’s hearts and the businessman embarks on helping the child find her parents. The spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas, however, and enlists the help of her friends to swindle ‘Daddy Warbucks’ and foil Annie’s plans to find her mother and father in the process. 

Fans will, no doubt, be eager to sing along to favourites like ‘Easy Street’, ‘I Don’t Need Anything But You’, and of course, ‘Tomorrow.’ So remember that the sun will come out tomorrow as this brilliant production is only a few months away.

TICKETS FOR THE 2016 ANNIE MUSICAL AT THE ARTSCAPE

Tickets range from R100p/p to R500p/p with some discounts available. No under-fives are allowed and there are shows at 2pm, 3pm and 7:30pm depending on the day you wish to attend. The show is two hours and twenty minutes long with a twenty minute interval.
