Enjoy the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra Autumn Symphony Season

Exciting line-up of artists playing both well-known and less often performed works compromising of Seven concerts with four conductors

After a very successful 4th International Summer Music Festival in January and February, the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO) is back with their Autumn Symphony Season on 1 April – one that features an exciting line-up of artists and a mouth-watering range of works on the programme.

The season consists of seven concerts under four conductors, and features excellent overseas and local soloists.  The conductors are South African-born Pieter Daniel, Bulgarian violinist, composer and conductor Martin Panteleev, the charismatic young British conductor Joolz Gale  and the award-winning German conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing.

There will indeed be something for every taste during this season – in addition to some well-known works, the programmes include some works that are not performed all that often, such as Richard Strauss’ Four Last Songs,  Bruch’s Kol Nidrei, Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso, Khatchaturian’s Violin Concerto and Mendelssohn’s Double Concerto for Violin and Piano.

The glittering array of soloists include:

• the multi-award winning Croation cellist Stjepan Hauser performing Dvořák’s Cello Concerto
• the Mauritian-born soprano Danielle Halbwachs singing Richard Strauss’ “Four Last Songs”
• the Dutch violinist Simone Lamsma performing Khatchaturian’s Violin Concerto
• South African cellist Heleen du Plessis playing Schumann’s Cello Concerto
• one of Europe’s foremost pianists, Russian-born Katja Apekisheva performing Grieg’s Cello Concerto
• leading South African pianist François du Toit  & guest Concertmaster of the CPO Farida Bacharova performing Mendelssohn’s Double Concerto for Violin and Piano 
• Russian cellist Grigory Alumyan performing Richard Strauss’ Romanze for Cello in F major, Bruch’s Kol Nidrei and Tchaikovsky’s Pezzo Capriccioso.
