SWING SAFARI captures the nostalgia and unique energy of the Big Band era that has enjoyed renewed popularity since the release of hits recorded by stars such as Robbie Williams, Michael Buble and Harry Connick Junior. But this season the Jonny Cooper Big Band move away from the stereotypical ‘American Songbook’ and rework a selection of South Africa’s best-known songs into the 1940’s swing style, paying tribute to the finest African composers and songwriters of that era, as well as tributes to the icons of the Swing Era including Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Frank Sinatra and Louise Armstrong.

Patrons can look forward to Nico Carsten’s world hit Zambezi, songs like Mama Thembu’s Wedding, Meadowlands, the Penny Whistle Song, and ‘Swingin Safari’, a worldwide hit for Bert Kaempfert.
