Jazz lovers, listen up! Summer time is meant for easy listening with beautiful views, and acclaimed local musician Ike Moriz is teaming up with classical Hout Bay trio Abantu to serve up both at his first concert of the year at a secret Botanical Garden Jazz Picnic in Cedar Woods, Constantia on Sunday, 25 January 2015.
Perhaps best described as a jack of all trades, Moriz does everything from singing and producing music to acting, and his talents have taken him all over the world. He’s had wide success in international markets like Holland and Germany, but since his return to South Africa in 2005, he’s also established himself in the local Cape Town music scene.
Dubbed South Africa’s own ‘indie pop Idol’ and taking inspiration from a variety of musicians, he is a versatile performer and has released 15 albums covering a range of genres, from easy listening to indie rock/pop.
Moriz has just recently come off tour in Germany, where he was promoting his 2013 release, At Last. His latest CD, Nobody Does it Better, is an ode to familiar old favourites from the 1930s and 40s and includes covers of modern jazz tunes. Fans can look forward to hearing renditions of songs like Cole Porter’s 'I’ve Got You Under My Skin’ and Michael Bublé’s hit, ‘Home’.
The Secret Botanical Garden Jazz Picnic is a fun, family-centric way to spend a Sunday afternoon away from the masses and amidst the natural splendour of Cape Town. So bring a picnic basket, umbrella for shade and the family along for an enjoyable afternoon out in Constantia.
