Break out the lederhosen and dirndls and get ready for a top Klaus bier festival when their new venue, GrandWest Casino and Entertainment World, transforms into a Bavarian-style beer hall for this years TOPS at SPAR Bierfest from Friday 3, to Saturday 4 November 2017. Bring your mates for a wunderbar celebration as you clink together massive beer steins, and gorge on Schmidt-hot snacks such as wursts, cheeses and massive pretzels.
With those who missed out on making the great trek to Munich for Oktoberfest in mind, the Bierfest imports Germany’s rich culture, cuisine and character to Cape Town to put on a three-day beer-guzzling affair.
Four exclusive beer varieties – Red Ale, Krystal Weiss, Royal Bavaria and Cream Ale – have been carefully crafted by the brewmasters at The South African Breweries Limited to give you a taste of Munich’s malts and hops. You can also sample three craft beers produced by Newlands Spring Brewing Co., namely their Passionate Blonde, Jacob's Pale Ale and the Mountain Weiss. What's more, an authentic Bavarian Brauhaus (beer hall) will be constructed and decorated to give revellers a feel for authentic German heritage.
Patrons are served jugs of frothing beer and lip-smacking traditional morsels, like pork knuckle (eisbein), German sausages, pickles, pretzels and more. All the while a genuine Oompah band – a Bavarian-style ensemble that plays a combination of brass instruments and foot-stomping percussion – thumps the day and night away.
HOW THE 2017 TOPS AT SPAR BIERFEST IN CAPE TOWN WORKS
Festival-goers must buy tickets to be granted entrance to the festival. Once inside, it’s also necessary to buy a certain number of crowns – the official currency of Bierfest – to purchase food and drinks. Crowns are available in denominations of R50 and are sold in packs of five, valued at R175 per pack. Make sure you use all your crowns as they are not refundable. Beat the queues and buy your crowns online via Quicket.co.za.
TICKETS FOR THE 2017 TOPS AT SPAR BIERFEST IN CAPE TOWN
Ticket packages for groups of 8 or 16 are available for purchase and these hospitality tickets include drinks, costume accessories and, in some cases, food. Though it’s certainly possible to buy single unreserved tickets (meaning, seating works on a first-come-first-serve basis), it’s still advised you book in groups of 6 or 12 as this ensures you get a table to yourselves. Not to mention, beer is always that much more fun when shared with good friends.
Tickets are available via Quicket.co.za, and costs are as follows:
