Situated on the busy R44 between Stellenbosch and Somerset West in South Africa’s prime red wine area, Avontuur Estate offers local and international visitors to the Western Cape during the World Cup the opportunity to blend their own wine in small or larger groups, under the watchful eye of young winemaker Natalie Nel.
This fun and interactive event gives visitors the chance to learn all about the art of blending. Practice your skills first with a tasting of three of Avontuur’s award-winning red blends; the cheerful and value-for-money Vintner’s Red 2007, the soft and smooth Cabernet/Merlot 2006 and the seriously meant-for-ageing Baccarat 2008.
On arrival at the cosy tasting room, the tasting will be done by the trained staff, after which Natalie will take guests into the barrel maturation cellar for their blending session under her tutelage. Participants will receive his or her own specially labeled blend to take home directly after the session.
Each blending session will take up to 45 minutes and the cost is R100 per person. The tasting room is open daily and blending sessions are offered from 10:00-15:00.
Although small groups or couples can be accommodated on arrival, larger groups (more than 6-20) are advised to book. If arriving without a booking or over weekends, the winemakers’ attendance cannot be guaranteed, but we will make every attempt to accommodate you in any case.
