Open Mic Jazz Idols at Grandwest

Show Cape Town what you've got to become a Jazz singing sensation with Heart 1049.fm

It’s time to show off your talent as a Jazz singer in the Open Mic Jazz Idols competition at GrandWest’s Jackson Hall. The competition which launched on 14 October 2009 and runs until 30 December 2009, aims to provide a platform for non-professional singers to showcase their potential talent.

The winner will be given the tools with which to further a career in Jazz music. Prizes include voice training with professional jazz performer Bev Scott-Brown, the opportunity to perform with the Jackson Hall Jazz band for a month, a demo recording, assistance with designing an album cover and a photo shoot for the winner to build up a media portfolio.

Bev Scott Brown has been working professionally on the South African music scene for over 14 years. Her love for music developed from her school days and set the path for a life dedicated to being involved in the music industry. Being primarily a performer, Bev has sung on most of the big stages in South Africa. From Cape Town to Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth to Durban, Bev has wowed audiences with her honest and interactive performance style.

Entrants will be required to choose the song they intend performing from a selection of 70 well known classics such as Blue Moon, Girl from Ipanema, Hello Dolly, Chicargo, I left my heart in San Francisco, Mac the Knife, Moon River, Mr. Bojangles, Strangers in the Night, Summertime and Unforgettable.

The judges will focus on vocal technique, song interpretation, stage presence and audience response, so friends, family and fans are encouraged to cheer and support their favourite entrants.

Entry forms can be collected from Jackson Hall or downloaded from heart1049fm.co.za. For more information, tune into Shado Twalo’s show on Heart 1049.fm between 14:00 and 18:00 every Sunday.

Entrants must be 18 years or older and may only enter once.

The competition takes place every Wednesday at GrandWest’s Jackson Hall from 20h00.
