7 great things to do in Cape Town this weekend

Our pick of seven of the best events and things to do in Cape Town this weekend from Friday 10 February to Sunday 12 February.

Pick any weekend of the year in Cape Town and you’re bound to find a host of events planned throughout the city. There are two festivals to choose from, a laid back Sunday lunch with live jazz or grape picking if you feel like being outdoors.

Theatre, live music, parties, exhibitions, special dinners – they’re all in the mix, and the best place to find what to do in Cape Town and surrounds can be found in our events section.

7 great things to do in and around Cape Town this weekend:

1. The Parlotones live at D’Aria
Catch this favourite local band live at the D’Aria Wine Estate in Durbanville, just 25 minutes drive from Cape Town. This Sunday sunset concert is the perfect romantic end to a weekend so pack a picnic and a bottle of wine and take someone special.

2. Suidoorsterfees 2012
Artscape Theatre has been filled with people speaking the ‘taal’ recently for the annual Suidoorstefees. There are shows on all weekend with plenty of variety so you’re sure to find something you love.

3. Vacanze Romance at Il Cappero
Take someone special out for a night of romance on Saturday. Enjoy a delicious meal at Il Cappero on Barrack Street while being swept away by Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn in ‘Vacanze Romane’.

4. Darling musical experience
Darling is just an hour’s drive away so take a trip there this weekend for their classical music festival. You won’t just find Bach and Beethoven here though, there will also be an introduction to champagne making and much more.

5. Red Carpet Fashion Show
The Bay Hotel in Camps Bay will be getting the red carpet treatment for this fashion show on Friday night. The show will feature some of South Africa’s most loved designers and the event will raise money for charity.

6. Sunday jazz lunch at Table Bay Hotel
Each week The Table Bay Hotel lays on an impressive spread and provides the music for the perfect Sunday lunch. Rudy Burns will be playing the jazz this week – you won’t want to miss it.

7. Hanepoot grape picking at De Krans
If you feel like a break from city life then make the four hour drive to Calitzdorp and go grape picking at De Krans Wine Estate on Saturday. It’s a great way to get back in touch with nature and a fun family activity.

If you’re looking for a bit of adventure try hiking Suicide Gorge.
