Cape Town is Hot Property in the New Monopoly World Edition

Cape Town has proved in yet another way that it is one of Africa's (and indeed the world's) most valued gems

Hasbro, the makers of one
of the world’s most popular board games – Monopoly – this week announced that Cape Town has claimed an elite spot on the much-hyped newest release of the classic game: the Monopoly World Edition.

Cape Town occupies the first of three green spots on the board, which are the second-most valuable of the colour-coded spots on the board.

The Mother City shares this group with Belgrade and Paris. The two blue spots – the most valuable in the game – went to Montreal and Riga.

Aspirant property buyers who play the game will now be able to buy houses and hotels in Cape Town, and even though the game versions aren’t quite the real thing, you’ll still have partial bragging rights to claim that you “own a hotel in Cape Town!”

We wrote a while ago about Cape Town being on the list of potential cities for the game, and encouraged you to vote for Cape Town for the World Monopoly Edition, and now we certainly have something to be proud about, with the Mother City deservedly taking one of the very top spots in the game.

Whether or not you’re from Cape Town, if you love this beautiful city, you can now go out and buy the Monopoly World Edition and start building your empire in Cape Town! Let’s just hope that if you get the ‘Go To Jail’ card you’re not sent to Polsmoor Prison!

Molo says: "If you are wondering when the Monopoly World Edition will go on sale, or where to buy the Monopoly World Edition in South Africa’s Cape Town, subscribe to our free and popular Editor’s Picks Newsletter."
