A super club that’s also a supper club
Like most good clubs in cities like London and New York, the entrance to Trinity is a nondescript door set into a warehouse-style red brick wall down a side street.
We’re there on a Monday – not exactly known for being the most happening night of the week, but Trinity is packed. Apart from the massive weekend parties featuring some of the hottest DJs around, they also host a monthly jazz evening. Mike Campbell’s Big Band has the place swinging with their big tunes. The dining tables in front of the stage are packed and we’ve found ourselves a comfy leather couch upstairs in the Salon Privé to enjoy the music from. This VIP area overlooks the dining area and gives us a good view of the band where we spot the drummer having a bit of a dance in-between beats.
No half measures
The sheer size of Trinity makes it unusual for Cape Town’s relatively diminutive clubs; opened in 2010, Trinity was inspired by the UK’s super clubs. On our way up through the club we spot a pipe organ stretching up three floors. No half measures here, everywhere you look is plush, modern and chic. With three floors and a rooftop for drinks with a view, there are plenty of different spaces to check out.
Burgers, rib-eye and sushi
Past the impressively grand reception you’ll find Trinity Café, stop by for a pre-dinner drink, light supper or pay it a visit during the day as it’s open for lunch too. You’ll find a full bar and a stage in this relatively small section of the club. Pizzas and burgers are the order of the day and if it’s a late night snack you’re after you’ll find them open until 4am.
If you’re in the mood for something more substantial then climb the stairs to the Trinity Grill, here you’ll not only find deliciously prepared seafood and steaks but a cocktail and shooter bar to get you in the party mood. Try a shooter in a glass made of ice or ask the bartender to recommend a cocktail – the menu is extensive. There’s also a raised private dining area that can also be used as a stage.
For a smaller, intimate dining experience make your way up to the third level for a menu with an Eastern influence. Dine on sushi and other Asian delicacies while enjoying the view down into the main ‘Funktion’ room. You can access the rooftop garden with its vertically growing plants as well as the members only Salon Privé.
Get your Funktion on
This large room, with its stylishly lit bar and water feature, boasts an impressive sound and lighting experience. The Funktion One sound system, the room’s namesake, will get the room pumping. Sébastien Léger, James Zabiela, Armin van Buuren and Cape Town favourites Dean Fuel and James Copeland are just some of the names that have played this stage.
The exposed brick and use of textures brings a New York loft feel to the club while the slick lighting and sound give it the professional edge that means a night out here will always be a fun one. Keep an eye on their line-up for the hottest parties, best local and international acts or rent it out for your next birthday or function.
