July celebrates more than half-time – time to get your new years resolutions back on track, get fit and develop the wine-knowledge you always dreamed of. We compiled an overview of July events for you.

Just outside of Cape Town, Stellenbosch is a town abundant with vineyards, where world-class wines are passionately produced. Every July, the wine capital of South Africa hosts the Stellenbosch Wine Festival, which gives visitors the opportunity to sample fine wines and gourmet cuisine, whilst exploring the town itself. Guests will also be able to watch cooking competitions, where professional chefs prove their culinary worth; and can meet the winemakers behind renowned varietals.
Cape Town does July fashionably! Enjoy the Cape Town International Fashion Week - a proudly South African event, showcasing the latest designs, from both the established and talented up and coming, local fashion designers. As it's one of the most prestigious lifestyle events on the calendar, make sure you're seen at one of the glamorous after-parties.
Make your way to Franschhoek, South Africa’s Gourmet Capital, for the Franschhoek Bastille Festival, where locals and visitors celebrate the valley’s centuries-old, French Huguenot heritage, known as 'Quatorze Juillet', every year.
Gansbaai is not only known for sharks, but also for geese. That's why every year the Festival of the Geese (Fees van die Ganse) celebrates the origins of Gansbaai to remember the wild geese that used to flock to the freshwater spring located in the present day harbour. The family festival offers live music, a 4x4 obstacle course, a mountain bike fun ride, boat trips Dyer Island, food and craft stalls and much more.
Get your paddles ready for the Olifants River Canoe Race (starting in Citrusdal) and the Berg River Canoe Marathon. The 4 day Berg River Canoe Marathon, started in 1961, is the main event on the WCCU racing calendar and covers a distance of over 250km, from Paarl, all the way to Velddrif. This race is not for the faint hearted, as it is the hardest and longest canoe race in South Africa.
From July to October, the countries top provincial teams compete in South Africa’s premier national rugby event, at the Norwich Park Stadium , Newlands. The Currie Cup is one of the oldest competitions in world rugby.
Calitzdorp is a small town in the heart of the Klein Karoo, but for one weekend every year, it’s buzzing, moving and drinking port. With the successful launch and growth of the Calitzdorp Port Wine Festival, in 1992, Calitzdorp has been firmly established as the Port Capital of South Africa. All the top port producers attend this yearly festival and the SAPPA's (South African Port Producers Association) annual general meeting is also held there. Activities include; cycling, a half-marathon, SA Boulle tournament, a street parade, stalls and a formal Port tasting.
Established in 1983, the Knysna Oyster Festival is a very popular, annual event, in the Western Cape. It celebrates the good life and sport. The event began as the Knysna Winter Festival - a combination of sport that drew people to Knysna during the quiet winter season.The Knysna Oyster Festival is spread across two weekends that promise constant fun and activities for the whole family. The sport aspect of the Oyster Festival has evolved into two major sporting events - the Pick 'n Pay Cape Times Forest Marathon (half marathon), and the Pick 'n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Cycle Tour, a two-day event that is the biggest of its kind in South Africa.
Moms, dads and parents-to-be should check out the Baba Indaba Cape Town. South Africa’s premier baby show inspires you, parents and moms-to-be, to enjoy your baby and pregnancy, whilst being a good parent. The range of cute, new and innovative baby products provides plenty of interest for grandparents and even friends looking for that ideal gift for the “Baby Shower”.
