Grande Provence Voted in Top 100 Wineries in the World

Yet another superb feather in the cap for the Cape Winelands

The award winning 5-star Grande Provence Heritage Wine Estate in Franschhoek has once again attained international recognition and added even more prestigious wine awards to its long list of accolades by being voted as one of the TOP 100 wineries in the world, selected out of 1,423 producers.

States General Manager, Rykie van Tonder: “We are extremely proud to have been acknowledged for our achievements as a world leader in the wine and hospitality industry. This is testament to all the hard work our team delivers day after day to offer our guests only the very best.”

Grande Provence has triumphed with two gold awards for its Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 and The Grande Provence 2004 at the second largest wine competition in the world, the AWC-Vienna International Wine Competition.

Gold medal
The estate was awarded a gold medal for the Grande Provence Chardonnay 2006 at the Juliet Cullinan Wine Connoisseurs Awards 2008 and also walked away with being voted the best white wine at the show. These awards were established in 2000 to evaluate and highlight leaders of the wine industry.

After a record 178 entries for the third annual SA Terroir Wine Awards, Grande Provence delivered the top Cabernet Sauvignon with the Grande Provence Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 and the top Chardonnay with the Grande Provence Chardonnay 2006. Both wines winning the trophy as best in their class.

In September, at the Michelangelo International Wine Awards, the Estate received yet another gold medal for its 2006 Chardonnay.

Following the gold medal win at the Michelangelo Awards, the Estate also received another two gold medals, this time at The Mundus Vini International Competition held in Germany, again for their Chardonnay 2006 and The Grande Provence 2004.

Jaco Marais, Grande Provence's Winemaker comments: “We simply do what we enjoy – make wine – so it’s incredibly inspiring and a great motivation when you hear you have won prestigious awards of such calibre – it’s certainly cause for celebration as it’s been a year filled with acknowledgements.”
