Cape Tango is back with its third edition of the Cape Tango Festival, featuring two world-class coaches and other tango aficionados for six days of exciting milongas, workshops and partying all over the city.
The excitement begins on 4 December, ending on the 9th.
A WORLD-FAMOUS DANCE TEACHER FEATURES
The 4th of December kicks off with registration at Youngblood Africa Art Gallery in Bree Street, followed by two workshops presented by Sidney Grant, a former teacher and a co-artistic director at the American Ballroom Theatre Youth Company. Grant has been featured on TV and often assists in training actors and actresses for ballroom-related scenes. After that, workshops alternate between Grant and another instructor: Mario de Camillis, who's had over 17 years experience in the Argentine Tango industry. Between the two of them, they'll keep your feet moving.
On 6 December there's a cheese-and-wine night at St Martini before the milonga class presented by Grant, with music by DJ Matteo Radaelli. You can participate in any of the workshops over the six-day period, depending on what your ticket allows. Make sure you check out the free milongas (parties) – that’s where you can squeeze more juice out of this event.
MILONGA THE NIGHT AWAY
The first milonga, a party where the Argentine tango is danced, takes place at Youngblood Africa Art Gallery on 5 December. Join DJ Rodney Ehrlich and other tango-ers for an evening hot Latin beats and swaying hips. It's free and anyone can join.
There's another milonga after an optional lunch at Youngblood Gallery on 7 December, running from 3pm to 6pm with DJ Tim Hall. And again on 8 December with DJ Rodney Ehrlich.
On 10 December, there's a milonga to end all milongas: the after-party. Entrance is R50 and come prepared to be seduced by the tempting tunes of DJ Sylvia Westcott.
