Spend the afternoon exploring the beautiful garden in the middle of the CBD!
Deep in the heart of the city, amongst sprawling city streets and higher-than-high sky scrapers, lays the oasis of The Company Gardens.
The popular public park is perfect for sunny days in Cape Town when you need a break from the city centre. With plenty to do in the gardens and surrounds, roaming the Company Gardens when in the Mother City should be a must-do outing for every visitor to Cape Town.
The garden’s sprawling lawns are perfect for long summer and spring time picnics. Armed with a packed lunch and picnic blanket, you’re set for a relaxing day lazing in the sun. Lunch hour in the Company Gardens is generally teeming with locals, who seek out the fresh air and beautiful views of Table Mountain.
The tree-lined avenue, with its benches and resident squirrels, make for the perfect location for a romantic day-time stroll. On your walk down the avenue, stop to browse the creations of local crafters selling their wares along the lane. If you’re not into crafts why not buy a bag of raw nuts to feed to the many squirrels who call the gardens home.
The Company Gardens in Cape Town is also home to a beautiful rose garden, Japanese garden, fish pond and aviary. If you’re not in the mood for a picnic you can also grab a bite to eat or a cappuccino in the Company Gardens coffee shop and restaurant, which is located near the aviary.
The quaint eatery can be found in the shade of large exotic trees and is the perfect lunch spot for a scorching hot summer’s day or a cool and breezy spring time lunch.
Whilst in the Company Garden, you can also explore the South African Museum, Planetarium, National Gallery, Jewish Museum and Parliament, which all form part of the Gardens. The Anglican St. Georges Cathedral and the South African National Library are also located at the end of the Gardens.
